(DFW AIRPORT, Texas, April 20, 2016) – Air Canada Cargo and Cargojet Airways Ltd., a subsidiary of Cargojet Inc., have announced new dedicated freighter service from Toronto to Mexico City via Dallas Fort Worth International Airport will begin June 9, 2016. The route is a result of a cooperative arrangement between Air Canada Cargo and Cargojet Airways and will be operated with Boeing 767-300ER freighter aircraft.
"We are proud to welcome Air Canada Cargo and Cargojet to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport," said John Ackerman, Executive Vice President of Global Strategy and Development for DFW Airport. “This addition to our air cargo network builds upon our solid relationships with Mexico and Canada while further strengthening the Dallas/Fort Worth market. Cargo and logistics are strategic priorities that will continue to help our Airport grow and create more economic benefits for the Dallas/Fort Worth region.”
With the new service, Air Canada Cargo becomes DFW’s 19th cargo carrier and enhances the Airport’s available service to major cargo hubs worldwide. The flight will also mark the first freighter service from DFW to Mexico by an airline that has ‘Fifth Freedom’ rights, which allow a carrier from one nation to operate scheduled revenue flights between two other countries. In this case, ‘Fifth Freedom’ rights give Air Canada Cargo the clearance to pick up cargo in Mexico City and deliver it to DFW, and vice versa.
The new route adds 52 tons of net cargo capacity and connects shippers from the DFW catchment area to more than 150 destinations in the carrier's global network.
Recognized as the premier inland cargo hub in the United States, DFW Airport handles 60-percent of all air cargo originating in Texas.
